Saturday is the 90th birthday of Dr Jack, the founder of Calcutta Rescue, and you can send him a birthday message by leaving a comment below.
For 40 years Dr Jack lived in the slums of Kolkata and devoted himself to serving the poor in any way he could – from medical care to setting up schools and employment programmes.
Recognised as the grandfather of street medicine globally he only retired from Kolkata last year, due to ill-health.
During his time there he helped over half a million people, and today his charity continues his commitment to the poorest of the poor.
