Kolkata Covid Peak Challenge

Would you like to help Calcutta Rescue provide food and other support for thousands of poor people in Kolkata struggling to survive because of the Covid crisis?

Would you like to see every pound you donate DOUBLED by Barclays? If so, then please make a donation now at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nirmalya-chakraborty-kcc2021 and it will be match-funded by the bank.

On July 17th and 18th Nirmalya Chakraborty, who is a trustee of the UK support group and works for Barclays, is walking over as many peaks as he can in the Peak District to fund the NGO’s Covid relief efforts.

This is our best hope globally of raising a significant amount of money to fund this vital work.

Last year Nirmalya did a hugely successful 10km walk as part of our Kolkata Covid Challenge, which many of you generously supported. That raised over £200,000 which funded 17 projects that have helped sustain and protect thousands of people in the slums in recent months.

This year, despite suffering from long-Covid, Nirmalya is determined to go much further, over much more difficulty terrain and over two days. He said:

I am excited about the walk and although I have never done a trek like this over challenging terrain, I know just how important this fundraiser is to Calcutta Rescue. The knowledge that people are supporting me will give me all the motivation I need to climb those big hills.

Nirmalya Chakraborty

The impact of the second Covid wave on the poor in Kolkata, and the recent lockdown, has meant many more have lost their livelihoods and will need regular supplies of food to prevent them and their families from suffering malnutrition.

And they face being hit by a third wave of Covid later this year when the lockdown ends as India has so far only vaccinated a tiny percentage of its population.

Unlike in the UK, there has been almost no government support to help people affected by the Covid crisis.

Calcutta Rescue has thrown itself into the struggle to support as many people as it can until the impact of the pandemic abates.

So please held Calcutta Rescue’s work by giving as generously as you can at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nirmalya-chakraborty-kcc2021 and please ask your family and friends to do the same.

We will keep the fundraising page up after the event as well so we can get more donations.

Remember, whatever you give will be DOUBLED!
