Join us in May for the first Sunshine on Sea festival!
Come and spend a wonderful weekend with us in May at Sunshine on Sea – a new festival of music, dance and film in aid of Calcutta Rescue!
For the past 18 months people in Hastings have been holding events to support the charity and now they are hosting a very special weekend of music, dance and film.
The historic seaside town in East Sussex is famous for a lot more than just the battle in 1066 (which actually happened in Battle!).
It is home to one of Britain’s most vibrant music scenes, is crammed with trendy shops, cafes and quaint old pubs, has a great art gallery on the beach and a small fishing fleet catching the freshest fish for local restaurants.
It is less than two hours by train from London and has a wide range of b&bs and small hotels where you can stay.
The festival runs over two days, starting at 1pm on Saturday, May 25 with a dance session run by renowned 5 Rhythms teacher Emma Leech. There are no steps to learn, nothing to get wrong – just do your own thing to music!
This will be followed by a Himalayan Gong Bath – a chance to unwind to the amazing sound of gongs and singing bowls played by master practitioner Andrew Lyddon.
After that there will be a CR Fairtrade Handicraft Fair and a range of delicious Indian food on offer, including Kolkata street food from the famous Everbody Love Love Jhal Muri Man.
In the evening there will be a concert by some of the country’s best female vocalists including Liane Carroll the double BBC jazz award singer and Juliet Russell who was the vocal coach on the Voice.
Finally, on Sunday morning, the town’s wonderful little arts cinema, the Electric Palace, will screen The City of Joy which stars Patrick Swayze playing the role of a doctor treating the poor in Kolkata.
The film was shot in 1991 with assistance from Calcutta Rescue and Sean Duggan, who was there at the time, will give a talk about it.
Apart from the concert and the film, where tickets are priced at £10, all the events are by donation – to ensure as many people as possible can take part.
So don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a wonderful weekend of activities at the seaside as well as supporting your favourite little charity!
