Volunteer Diabetic Nurse

Summary:

The Volunteer Diabetic Nurse (VDN) works mainly in Sealdah and Belgachia.  

The VDN works with the health educationalist, the health educational supervisor, the clinic doctors and the supervisor of the clinic for 5 days a week.

  • Health education supervisor

Main Purpose:

The nurse volunteer introduces and/or implements own knowledge and skills to create significant contributions to the quality of care of the (diabetic) patients within Calcutta Rescue clinics.

The volunteer supervises the Diabetic Health Worker supervisor and the Diabetic health educationalist  who is responsible for providing expert advice and support to the diabetic patients.

Detailed duties at present:

The VDN observe and advice the diabetic health worker/ educationalist in:

  • Keeping the highest standards of health education.
  • Preparing and giving group or individual health education sessions in the clinics.
  • Giving particular and focused care to all diabetic patients and especially to those who have difficulties controlling their blood sugar levels.  
  • On an annual basis, being responsible for Foot Assessment for all diabetic patients.
  • Giving training to other staff members for care of diabetic patients
  • Cooperating with staff members from the clinic.
  • Help organizing the continual diabetic monitoring project done every 6 months.
  • Analyzing the results from the diabetic project and giving advice to the doctors.
  • Rendering any other duties commensurate with the post.

The VDN participate in MAC Meetings every two weeks.

The VDN participate in Doctors Meeting each month.

The VDN participate if necessary in a staff meeting of the clinic.
