Some of Calcutta Rescue’s patients and ex-schoolchildren struggle to make a living due to disability, illiteracy, or lack of skills and confidence.
Our Fairtrade handicraft project provides them with skills training and employment. This helps them to earn the money they need to support themselves and their families with dignity.
The project produces a wide range of attractive products using a variety of traditional crafts and materials – from up-cycled silk saris to water hyacinth bags. Volunteer designers work with the team, training them in new skills and developing new products.
Our older school children also receive career guidance and support in pursuing vocational training that will enable them to find work.
